Bible Study Summary

Updated: Feb 23

This Monday during bible study we had a discussion around the effectiveness and relevance of the gifts in the body. We discussed the offices one can be called to, and the manifestation of the gifts.

The question arose:

If we are all given gifts of the spirit and can all prophecy, what role does the prophet play in this current dispensation? If the Holy Spirit can give us insight is the prophet still relevant? Below is the extract of this discussion!

Prophecy is one of the gifts of the Spirit. Ephesians 4:11-13 states “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:11-13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Every one who sets up a church isn’t an apostle, nor is everyone who evangelizes an evangelist and every one who teaches isn’t a teacher. He gave “some” to be in a particular office as stated in the scripture, but this also doesn’t stop others from being blessed with the gift as well. It’s all for edifying of the body to equip the saints for work in ministry and unite us in our faith.

Just because some prophets prophesy and the prophecy delays or does not come to pass doesn’t mean they aren’t prophets. After all, we see in part and prophecy in part. We shouldn’t throw stones and become jaded into thinking this is so because prophecy has value in the body of Christ. We are all walking this walk we are all human and flawed prophets included! Gifts of the spirit are given by God and meant to benefit others in the body and so we shouldn’t discard any of them. The office of the prophet is still very much relevant. Each man should work his salvation with fear and trembling.
